Aim: To train local women to provide maternal and women's health care.
Assistance: Would you like to donate funds for health-care training and other costs of the selected 'nurse'?
Since the Kangchenjunga School Project built the first health clinic in Ghunsa 1991, we have been involved in the continuous training of health care workers in the villages, and a general assessment of the local health care needs. Past projects include:
Two health care workers now operate in the Kangchenjunga valley, one at the Ghunsa clinic,
and the other at the Folay clinic. Whilst KSP pays the salaries of the health care worker
in the Ghunsa clinic, the worker in Folay, a Tibetan refuge village, is paid for by
the Tibetan Government in Exile. Currently, through the British Nepal Medical Trust,
the Hill Drug Company provides periodic
training to the health-care workers in diagnosis and dispensing appropriate medications
for common ailments, such as upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, and intestinal
parasitic infections. Screening for Tuberculosis is also carried out.
Maternal Health Care
Attention to women's health is lacking however, as the two clinic workers are both male. KSP is seeking support for the implementation of a district-wide training program for women's reproductive health, which is currently non existent.
This program aims to train a local woman to be able to meet the maternal and gynecological needs of the women in four villages. She would provide prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care of the mother and child. KSP is providing the funds for the tuition, living costs, and the salary for this much needed position.
Would like to volunteer your skills or time to help with household surveys or provide other needed health care in the region, or are you interested in providing some funds toward health care programs or clinic upkeep?
